The names of five candidates have been finalized for the appointment of vice chancellor to the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast), but a candidate from Sindh and former vice chancellor of the Technical University Khairpur, Dr Madad Ali Shah, has been removed from fifth and moved to sixth number on the list.
The five candidates who have been finalized for the position are Dr Bakht Jahan, Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, Dr Zabta Shinwari, Dr Athar Mehboob and Zakir Zakaria.
In a meeting held at the HEC Regional Centre under the chairmanship of Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on Friday, the five names were approved after the names of 10 candidates were considered.
Now these names will be sent to the Senate of the Federal Urdu University. The Senate will select three names and send them to the President of Pakistan, after which the president will approve one name as VC.
Sources close to a member of the search committee, Dr AQ Mughal, said that in the first meeting of the search committee, the HEC chairman selected 10 names but withheld marks and said he would select the marks based on the average in the next meeting. However, this did not happen, and the only candidate of Sindh, Madad Ali Shah, was pushed from fifth to sixth number and out of the race.
When The News contacted Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed for comments, he said he “cannot comment on it”.
