MINGORA: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supreme leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan must be held accountable for his actions.

“Those who have been tested should not be voted to power again. The country has borne the brunt of opting for Naya Pakistan. Why was that person [PTI founder] given permission to harm the country?” Nawaz remarked while addressing a public gathering at the Grassi Ground here.

Recounting his previous government’s achievements, Nawaz said five rotis cost only Rs25 in his party’s tenure. He also accused the PTI government of neglecting the infrastructure projects. “Where are 300 promised dams in KP?” he asked the public about the announcement of erstwhile premier Imran Khan. The PMLN leader said the PTI founder deceived the masses through hollow slogans, as he did not see five million houses anywhere in KP. “They cheated you through hollow slogans while we built roads, dams and other mega uplift schemes whenever voted to power,” Nawaz added.

He recalled that load-shedding was eliminated and peace was restored to the country during his tenure. “The country is again facing load-shedding and law and order situation in KP and elsewhere in the country after the years-long government of PTI,” he added.

The ex-premier lamented that the prices of essential items had increased manifold during the PTI government. “They destroyed the old Pakistan in their quest to make a new Pakistan,” he said, adding the people were struggling to make ends meet. He vowed to put the country on the road to progress and prosperity.

Addressing the gathering, Maryam Nawaz expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming turnout in Swat. Criticising the PTI leader, she said, “While his own children reside in London, the youth of KP are incarcerated and they face difficulties.”

Addressing the challenges faced by the PMLN, Maryam highlighted the resilience of Nawaz Sharif amidst adversity, emphasizing his continuous dedication to the country’s betterment despite facing obstacles.

She called out those responsible for initiating legal proceedings against Nawaz Sharif, asserting that their attempts to discredit him had finally failed.

Regarding the political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Maryam criticized the previous government’s lack of tangible progress despite a decade in power. “Where are the opponents of Nawaz Sharif? Where are those who claimed that Nawaz Sharif would never be able to return to politics?” she asked.

Maryam emphasized her refusal to accept special treatment while incarcerated, highlighting her principled stance of refusing privileges in prison.

PMLN provincial president Amir Muqam accorded a warm welcome to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz upon arrival in Swat.

He urged the people to vote for the PMLN in the upcoming elections on February 8 to pull the country out of crises.
