LALAMUSA: Former Advisor to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira on Sunday, while addressing a political gathering in Lalamusa, highlighted the importance of electoral process, saying through this process, the people elect politicians who represent them in the assemblies.
“Through these democratic processes, we entrust the responsibility of shaping the future to the chosen representatives, who subsequently form the government and appoint ministers,” he added.
He said the public discourse is rife with diverse opinions, attributing blame of the country’s current situation to different political entities such as the PPP, PMLN and PTI, along with criticism aimed at the military and the judiciary.
“Amidst this cacophony, it’s crucial to ponder: what truly defines a politician? Is it the military’s influence that propels one into politics, or does the judiciary anoint political figures through its decisions? The crux lies in the democratic mandate where citizens, through their votes, elect politicians to represent them in the assembly,” he said.
Kaira said Pakistan, with its 266 constituencies, elects 266 representatives who form the backbone of the government and opposition.
“A robust assembly, comprising capable representatives, is essential for making sound decisions for the nation. The quality of decisions is intricately tied to the calibre of the assembly. To reshape our nation’s destiny, there is a pressing need to enhance the process of electing representatives,” he said.
He further said the successful nations globally subject their representatives to rigorous tests of ability and competence, a practice that could pave the way for transformative changes in our country.
Meanwhile, addressing a gathering in Dinga, the PPP leader said the onus of extricating Pakistan from its current challenging predicaments lies on the shoulders of politicians. “The responsibility, however, extends beyond the political realm to encompass the collective consciousness of the nation.”
Kaira said the impetus for change rests not only on the political front but also resonates in the aspirations of the youth. “Endeavoring to secure employment abroad, the youth often find themselves ensnared in the web of illicit avenues to fulfill their dreams,” he added.
He said a proposed solution surfaces in the establishment of a technical training institute in Dinga and Lalamusa, a conduit through which the youth can acquire skills, paving the way for dignified overseas employment.
