The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will continue working on its mission to secure the rights of underprivileged residents of the Lyari area of Karachi by following in the footsteps of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Benazir’s daughter and younger sister of PPP Chairman Bilawal Butto Zardari, said this on Sunday as she spoke to residents of Lyari while leading the PPP’s election campaign rally in the underprivileged neighbourhood of the city.

Aseefa visited several parts of Lyari and its adjoining areas. She was warmly welcomed by supporters of the PPP who shouted slogans in favour of the PPP, its chairman and other leaders.

She vowed that she and the PPP chairman would always be vocal for the rights of the residents of Lyari. She promised that the lives of the people of Lyari would be revolutionised on the basis of the pro-people manifesto of the PPP.

She informed Lyari’s residents that the PPP’s latest election manifesto stood for the provision of food, free education and healthcare services, land ownership rights, and up to 300 units of free electricity to destitute families. “I am here, the daughter of Benazir Bhutto, as the representative of the people,” she said. She informed the PPP’s supporters that the manifesto of her party had provided the solutions to the issues of mass poverty and hunger.

She said clean power would be generated through solar energy to provide up to 300 units of free electricity to people of the deprived areas.

Aseefa reiterated the resolve of the PPP to turn around the destiny of Pakistan. She appealed to the residents of Lyari to give a chance to the PPP chairman as after coming into power, he would fight for their rights.

“The residents of Lyari remained with us in our good and bad times. We promise you provision of free education and healthcare services. We also promise to regularise the katchi abadis,” she said.

She claimed that the election manifesto presented by Bilawal was a pro-poor people document as the PPP chairman after winning the elections would strive for alleviation of poverty in the country.

She recalled that her late mother Benazir had dedicated her life to struggle for the rights of deprived farmers and labourers in the country.

She said the previous regime of the PPP in Sindh had launched the People’s Bus Service and Pink Bus Service for women commuters in Karachi.

Aseefa was of the view that voting in favour of the PPP would mean voting for the development and prosperity of Pakistan. She said the PPP’s election symbol ‘arrow’ stood as the symbol of daring people, farmers, labourers, students and deprived people. She promised the rally participants that the PPP would work to empower women and youth after coming into power.

“The Peoples Party and the people of Pakistan are going to win on February 8 polls,” she said.

PPP leaders Saeed Ghani, Nabeel Gabol, Saleem Mandviwala, Usman Hangoro, Malik Muhammad Fayyaz, Khalil Hoath, and others accompanied Aseefa in the rally that visited Aath Chowk, Cheel Chowk, Agra Taj Colony, Bihar Colony, Ghas Mandi, and adjoining areas.
