ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist of the daily Jang, iconic unionist and President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Workers) Pervez Shaukat passed away in Rawalpindi on Friday.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at the Dok Ratta graveyard. He was 68 and has left behind a widow, two sons and a daughter. Pervez Shaukat, who was known by his friends and colleagues as a “voice of journalists and workers for their rights”, always advocated the rights of media workers. His career spanned over 40 years in which he remained associated with the Jang Group. He served as president Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Barna), secretary Rawalpindi Press Club and president and general secretary Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ). He was also elected president and secretary general All Pakistan Newspapers Confederation.
Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has expressed grief over his death. He said the services rendered by Pervez Shaukat would always be remembered. Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi has also expressed sorrow over the death.
