ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman Maj-Gen (retd) Hafeezur Rehman called on Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar to present the PTA’s annual report for the year 2023.
This report encapsulates the progress and advancements witnessed in the telecommunications industry throughout the preceding year. The PTA chairman highlighted key milestones, innovative initiatives, and strategic interventions undertaken to enhance connectivity and ensure the provision of high-quality services to the citizens of Pakistan.
Although the report highlighted that telecom revenues witnessed 17 percent growth in 2023 in terms of rupees, for foreign investors, in dollar terms, they decreased from $4.84 billion in 2018 to $3.03 billion in 2023.
The report highlights that the telecom sector generated Rs850 billion in terms of revenues in FY 2022-23, showing a growth of 17% despite economic challenges. Moreover, cellular mobile services are available to 90% of Pakistan’s population. Telecom subscribers reached an impressive 192 million at the end of September 2023, with 130 million broadband subscribers. Several regulatory measures and initiatives were taken during the reported year for the growth and development of the sector.
