LAHORE : The 20-member council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), led by President Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, held a meeting with the health ministers of all provinces on Thursday.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the expansion of the scope of medical training standards and quality in the field of higher medical education, both at the district and divisional level.
During the meeting, special focus was given to the implementation and expansion of emergency medicine in medical institutions affiliated with private, public and armed forces.
Punjab Health Ministers Dr Javed Akram and Dr Jamal Nasir, Sindh Health Minister Dr Saad Niaz, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Prof Dr Riaz Anwar and Balochistan Health Minister Dr Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai participated in the meeting.
DG Medical Education Prof Aamer Zaman Khan invited health ministers to attend the 2024 International Medical Education Conference to be held in Karachi next month.
President CPSP Prof Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted the CPSP contribution to higher medical education. He briefed on CPSP's medical training policy, emphasising the importance of emergency medicine and its expansion at district and divisional levels. Treasurer Prof Masroor Ahmed, Prof Waqar Alam Jan, and Prof Aisha Siddiqua also expressed their views in the meeting. Health ministers of all provinces appreciated the exemplary performance of CPSP at the national and international levels. They announced the provision of high-quality medical facilities at the district level while maintaining training standards and issued instructions for the establishment of Emergency Medicine Departments in medical institutions at the district level. President CPSP, Prof Dr Khalid Masud Gondal presented special souvenirs to the provincial health ministers.
Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Health and Social Welfare Prof Dr Javed Akram said that the government wanted to bring a clear reduction in the rate of violence against women.
The minister stated this while chairing a meeting held here in Home Department Thursday.
The minister reviewed the implementation of the decisions made in the last meeting held on September 8, 2023. During the meeting, the Secretary of Women Development Department, Samira Samad, gave a briefing to the minister in this regard.
Dr Javed Akram said on this occasion that the government wanted to bring a clear reduction in the rate of violence against women. Islam has clearly defined the rights of women. A study will also be conducted in this regard. Recently, he said, the Punjab government has taken the responsibility of Aiman and Rizwana, who fell victims to brutal violence.
‘There are many Aimans and Rizwanas in our society, who are still becoming victims of violence.
The Anti-Violence against Women Act 2016 should be implemented 100%. The ‘Centre for Violence against Women’ is being expanded in Nishtar Hospital Multan. Darul Amaan will be made fully functional,’ he added.
