The ban on students and labour unions is against the true spirit of democracy as these unions play a pivotal role in bringing societal changes.
If terrorists are acquitted due to the failure of prosecution, its blame must not be given to the courts, Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani stated on Saturday. “There are inequality of law as there is a different law for the establishment and a different law for a common man. The Article 5 of the constitution calls for equality of law among the citizens of Pakistan which is not implemented in true letter and spirit.
“This is so unfortunate that loans taken by the establishment and the bureaucracy are written off but the loans taken by the common men are not writing off and they are declared defaulter,” he observed while delivering a lecture at a seminar entitled “Legal Complications for Bank and Corporate Entities (Remedies)” organised by university syndicate member Sardar Yasin Malik at the Professional Development Centre, University of Karachi.
He informed the audience that during his chairmanship in the House, the communication gap between common people and the parliament was decreased and positive measures were taken in this regard.
He said several measures were adopted to fill such gaps and experts were invited in the meetings of the parliamentary committees to make the process of legislation better and more transparent.
He also said a speaker or chairman of the parliamentary house could not play any role or influence in the passing or rejection of any bill or resolution in the house.
“Pakistan is at the cross roads and we along with all the stakeholders must play a positive role in the equality of justice and rule of the law for the betterment of the country. Adequate laws are made but they are not implemented.”
