He stated this on Friday while meeting Chief Executive Officer Prime Minister Health Programme Muhammad Arshad and CEO State Life Insurance Corporation Shoaib Javed Hassan at the Governor House.

The meeting discussed issues related to the launching of a universal health insurance scheme for the public, the Sehat Sahulat Card programme, and other relevant matters.

Tessori said in the meeting that all the citizens should get access to quality healthcare facilities as per their fundamental rights defined in the constitution, and no government could ignore this fundamental need of the people.

He said that there should be no compromise on affairs related to public health for laying the foundation of a healthy society in the country.

The governor was of the view that common citizens should get the facility of universal health insurance to enable them to get treatment facilities from any well-reputed hospital in the private sector. He asked the officials to finalise the arrangements for the Sehat Sahulat Card scheme at the earliest so that the people of Sindh could get the facility of universal health insurance without any further delay.

He said that people in other provinces had been getting treatment facilities under the Sehat Sahulat Card programme for the past many years.

He lamented that Sindh was the only province whose dwellers were deprived of the universal health insurance facility. Tessori informed the officials that he had talked to the Sindh chief minister and the chief secretary about launching of the universal health programme in the province.
