Foreign mission rep visits COAVS

LAHORE : A representative of Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM) in Pakistan Saturday visited College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS), King Edward Medical University/Mayo Hospital.

Sussan Wolfmaire, Programme Coordinator, Project Monitoring and Delivery, Christoffel-Blindenmission (CBM), Germany, and Dr Zahid Awan, IEH Projects Manager CBM met with the college leadership about eye health programmes at COAVS.

She said I got to know and reviewed the college's role in the ongoing inclusive eye health and the college's efforts to make it sustainable. Sussan Wolfmaire said, “COAVS is a very capable and committed organization to prevent blindness in Pakistan. I am happy with its achievements and excited to collaborate with it in future. She was impressed by the research style of Principal/DG COAVS Prof M Moin.

Dr Zahid Awan said “CBM and COAVS are working towards a common goal. He appreciated the efforts of Prof Asad Aslam for the development of IEH services in Punjab. Prof Moin, Principal, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences and Chairman Eye Department KEMU/MHL said the COAVS is the largest institute providing eye care education in Pakistan and it is working to eradicate blindness in the country through human resource development in ophthalmology by training doctors, nurses, allied eye care professionals and primary health care workers. It is affiliated with King Edward Medical University and Mayo Hospital. Prof Dr Moin heads the District Eye Care Programme, disease control projects and public awareness campaigns. Prof Asad Aslam Khan, Pro Emeritus and Provincial Coordinator for Prevention of Blindness Programme Punjab thanked the CBM Germany for its positive cooperation with the college in the prevention of blindness projects in Punjab and for more vision improvement projects in future.
