Man dies in Nadarabad police custody
LAHORE: A 26-year-old man, who was detained by police following a quarrel in the neighbourhood, reportedly died in custody at Chowki Nadarabad of the RA Bazar police station.
The deceased, identified as Imran Hussain, son of Akbar Hussain, was a resident of Haji Park Malikwala Chowk, Street No. 4, Nadarabad. He is survived by two children. According to the victim’s family, after a dispute in the Nadarabad locality, the Chowki Nadarabad police reached the spot and picked up a resident. Imran, the victim, tried to intervene and stop the policemen, after which they took him to the police station.
The victim’s mother said that Imran was apprehended by Chowki Nadarabad police at 9 in the morning, and his lifeless body was left at the doorstep of the house at 6 in the evening.
She said that the policemen had brought her son’s body on a rickshaw and claimed he was unwell, instructing them to take care of him. When he was taken to hospital, it was discovered that he had died in the last four hours.
The victim’s family alleges that in-charge Chowki Nadarabad, Rana Asad, and ASI Shabbir had taken Imran to the Chowki. Two other individuals were released by the police after taking a bribe of Rs30,000.
Woman killed, husband injured as their bike hits speeding truck
A 45-year-old woman was killed while her husband sustained injuries when a speeding truck collided with their motorcycle on River Ravi Bridge in Shahdara police area on Friday. The deceased was identified as Kausar Naseem, a resident of Rachna Town, Ferozwala.
The victim was passing through the River Ravi bridge along with her husband Siddique when a truck rammed into their motorcycle, as a result she died on the spot and her husband sustained injuries. Siddique was provided medical aid on the spot while the woman’s body was shifted to the mortuary by Edhi Ambulance.
Cab driver arrested for harassing varsity girl
Nawab Town police arrested a cab driver on charges of harassing a girl here on Friday. According to detail, a private taxi driver attempted to harass a university-going girl. The distressed girl from the Raiwind area made a call at the emergency 15 helpline upon which the Safe City team alerted the police to rescue the girl. Nawab Town police reached the scene and rescued the girl. The suspect’s vehicle was traced through Safe City cameras.
Road accidents
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,018 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
In these road accidents, 10 people died whereas 1,122 were injured. Out of these, 489 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals while the 633 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue medical teams.
