It has been almost two years since my wife’s CNIC expired. She visited the NADRA Mega Centre in North Nazimabad, Karachi last month for the final renewal of her CNIC.
However, she was told by the concerned official to submit a ‘nationality certificate’ for the renewal of her CNIC since she had only come to Pakistan in the 1960s. At that time, neither did her maternal uncle (her guardian) who made the arrangements for her arrival in Karachi from Lucknow, after the demise of her parents, apply for the nationality certificate nor was such a certificate issued in her name by the concerned department. I emailed the NADRA chairman about three weeks ago asking why my wife was issued a CNIC and identity card without having obtained a nationality certificate in the first place, but have yet to receive a response. After the passage of over five decades, putting forth this condition also seems quite irrational. The authorities concerned are requested to kindly look into the matter and remove or withdraw this unjustified and unwarranted condition.
