Malaysia’s anti-graft agency questions Mahathir’s son
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia´s anti-corruption agency said on Thursday it had summoned son of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad for questioning over his business activities. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) ordered Mirzan Mahathir, the eldest son of Mahathir, to declare all his assets in and outside the country within 30 days.
The order is part of its probe following revelations contained in the so-called Panama Papers, “as well as his business activities involving the sale and purchase of government-linked companies”, the MACC said in a statement. The move comes after the MACC said it was investigating Daim Zainuddin, a former finance minister and close ally of Mahathir.
Daim issued a statement last month rejecting “any corrupt act or wrongdoing of whatsoever nature” and described the probe as a “political witch-hunt”.
