ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the petition filed against the termination of a former inspector of the Intelligence Bureau for abuse of power.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarat Hilali, heard the plea of Abdullah, a former inspector in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) who was removed from service for misusing his powers.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa told the counsel if individuals like the suspended police officer were allowed to serve in the bureau, it would jeopardize the institution. “I am not concerned about you but about the people of this country,” remarked the CJP.

The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that his client had been dismissed from his job by the Bureau for using a non-custom-paid vehicle. The chief justice asked the counsel whether he admitted that the car was in his client’s possession.

The counsel, however, replied that his client had used his friend’s car for one day. “Don’t lie. Your client has not done any favour to anyone,” the CJP told the counsel, adding that his client had also put a fake official number plate on the non-custom-paid vehicle.

“Being in a sensitive institution like IB, you have misused your powers,” the CJP told the counsel, emphasizing that people in this institution do not disclose their activities. The chief justice observed that there was a standard for the job of the police force and intelligence agencies. Later, the court dismissed the appellant’s petition.
