Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi is a well-known Urdu short stories writer and poet. He contributed into various forms of literature as poet, short-story writer, script writer, journalist etc. He is one of the Pakistani writers who earned recognition at state and public level. As an artist, Federal Urdu University, Islamabad’s scholar Ahmad Hussain Hadi got Ph.D. Degree on Nadeem Qasmi’s fiction, says a press release.

Later in 2020, the research work (thesis) got published under the title “Samaaj, afsana & Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi” (Society, story and Qasmi) from UKs publication, Lahore. Book has been divided into five chapters. Hadi reviewed all short story collections that are seventeen in numbers. Before this, as researcher, he analysed the family background and early education of Qasmi which shaped his taste regarding short story writing. From collection, “Chopaal” to patjhar, Qasmi, according to Mr. Hussain, scrabbled about love, humanity, nature and social inequality. He portrayed the daily life in simple way and tried to understand the psyche of human being. He had the ability to translate emotions into words to present a true picture of the required situation.

According to Ahmed Hussain’s findings, the social issues highlighted in stories, are because of Qasmi’s affliation with progressive writers’ movement. Moreover, the conflict between Landlords and Landless peasants which deliberately used by British rule for dividing and ruling the people of Sub-continent. Hussain also takes into account the comparison of Krishan Chandar and Nadeem Qasmi as stay story writers.

As a critic, he thinks that Qasmi is much influenced by Krishan Chandar. Rajindar Singh Baidi and Saadat Hassan Manto also had an effect as Qasmi’s art. The book reveals that not only the social life of countryside has been portrayed in Nadeem’s work but urban complexed society has also been reflected in his fiction wherein the writer comes up with some conclusions.

While regarding Sumaj, Afsana & Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, it seems that Hadi consulted a lot of books, magazines, Newspapers etc. to explore Ahmed Nadeem and then set a view point regarding his artistic pedestal. He collected many Qasmi’s contemporary writers’ views scattered in various books and papers which help the readers to understand the great Urdu artist. Some of the names of admirers are: Hassan Askary, Jameel-ud-Din Aali, Amjad Islam Amjad, Zahida Hina, Dr. Khawaja Zakria, Qayyum Nizami, Krishan Chandar, Khalida Hussain, Mujtaba Hussain etc.

Ahmed Hadi, as research Scholar contributed much to recognize and acknowledge, Qasmi’s struggle against dictators. In preface, Dr. Rawish Nadeem rightly mentioned, that Ahmed Hussain Hadi did a tremendous job to validate the artwork of Urdu’s great author. Ahmed Hussain Hadi identifies the depth of Qasmi’s fiction and has succeeded to inspire the new readers to pay attention towards his short stories. This book is a valuable addition to Urdu Literature.
