Obesity week observed at Capital Hospital
Islamabad : Pakistan hosts its first ever Obesity Week at Capital Hospital to draw national attention to the pressing issue of obesity. The week concluded here on Friday.
The Capital Hospital witnessed a ground-breaking event in healthcare – the first Obesity Week in Pakistan. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Naeem Taj, President of the Obesity Week, and organized by Dr. Tanseer Asghar. Dr. Fazal-e-Maula, the patron of the event, also provided significant insights into the challenges and solutions pertaining to obesity. The week was marked by a series of live surgeries, interactive talks, and panel discussions, spearheaded by renowned experts in the field.
Prof. Antonio Torres from Spain, a pioneer of the SADI-S procedure, graced the event as the Master Trainer, providing invaluable knowledge and expertise. Panel discussions covered vital topics like Bariatric anaesthesia, endocrinology, post-bariatric surgery aesthetics, and bariatric nutrition, providing a holistic view of the obesity treatment spectrum.
Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj Dean and Head of Surgery department Capital hospital informed that Obesity Week represents a monumental step in addressing obesity in Pakistan. It's about bringing the best minds together to share knowledge and advance treatments. He described that Obesity associated health problems such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, renal dysfunction and depression improved significantly with bariatric surgery procedure performed in this week.
Dr. Tanseer Asghar said that this event is not just about surgeries; it's about education, awareness, and changing lives. The meeting offers a public policy on studies of treatment and prevention of obesity.
Dr. Fazal-e-Maula Executive director informed that surgeries were performed free of cost in this mega event and proved to be effective in sustaining weight loss, improving quality of life and prolonging life expectancy Member Administration.
CDA Talat Mahmood and Qaiser Khan Khattak Member environment appreciated the efforts of Surgery department capital hospital for performing live Bariatric Surgeries through the week Prof Antonio Torres said that Obesity has grown to become a global pandemic, leading to higher medical costs and a lower quality of life.
Progressively, there is a growing consensus that bariatric surgery is the optimal treatment option for individuals who are clinically morbidly obese and have failed medical treatment.
