Baqar awards Rs133.5m in grants to 28 bar associations

Sindh caretaker chief minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar on Thursday interacted with the leaders of 28 bar associations in the province during a meeting, listened to their issues and gave them a grant of Rs133.5 million.

Baqar welcomed the elected representatives of the high court and district bar association representatives, and appreciated the role of lawyers in maintaining the supremacy of law and the constitution.

He said that the main function and aim of the interim government were to ensure free, fair and transparent elections, for which he has made all the necessary arrangements. He also said that being lawyers, “we must have good interactions and liaisons with other segments of society, especially legislators”. He added that lawyers must keep a close eye on society and extend their full support to the marginalised segments.

He handed over cheques of Rs10 million each to the high court bar associations of Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana, Rs20 million to the Karachi Bar Association, Rs10 million each to the district bar associations of Hyderabad and Sukkur, and Rs7.5 million to Malir, and Rs5 million each to Nawabshah and Khairpur district bars.

He gave Rs4 million to Shikarpur, Rs2 million each to Badin, Dadu, Jamshoro, Ghotki, Mithi, Sanghar, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shahdadkot, Sujawal and Naushahroferoze, Rs3 million to Thatta, and Rs1 million each to Tando Mohammad Khan, Matiari and Tando Allahyar district bars. He also gave Rs2 million to the Taluka Bar Association Bhirya of District Naushahroferoze.

The meeting was attended by caretaker law minister Omer Soomro, interim information minister Ahmad Shah, Special Assistant to CM Advocate Moiz Baig, Law Secretary Ali Ahmad Baloch, and the elected representatives of high court and district bar associations.
