JAMRUD: Women from Jamrud closed the Pak-Afghan Highway for traffic on Thursday to register protest at the prolonged power load-shedding.
The blockade caused long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road while passengers and commuters faced difficulties as well. Some of the women who were part of the protest said there was a severe shortage of water at their homes because all the tubewells became dysfunctional for the lack of electricity supply and they had to fetch water from far-off areas.
They asked the relevant authorities to ensure a proper electricity supply and carry out minimum loadshedding. The protesting women reopened the road on the assurance of the local elders who said they would take up their demands with the power distribution company officials.
