AIP nurses protest non-payment of salaries
KHAR: The nurses recruited under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP) project staged a protest against the non-payment of their salaries for the last nine months. The male nurses gathered outside the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar and chanted slogans against the non-payment of their salaries.
The protesting nurses said that they were faced with many challenges due to non-payment of salaries despite the fact they were working in remote areas in the prevailing harsh winter. They said that their families were faced with starvation and a host of other problems because of the financial crises.
The protesters appealed to the relevant quarters to release their outstanding salaries so they could continue their duties with utmost dedication. They threatened to launch a protest movement, including staging a sit-in outside the office of secretary of Health Department in Peshawar if their salaries were not paid by January 15.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department had recruited nurses through the AIP project to serve in the merged districts. These nurses have been assigned duties in different health centres in various tribal districts.
