RAWALPINDI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) leader and a candidate for the National Assembly, Maulana Rehan Jamil, was wounded critically when a gunman opened fire at him in Naseerabad on Tuesday evening, police said.
The concerned police claimed that it was not political or religious attack but some gangsters were behind the attack, adding that a young boy was kidnapped on 4th January and a case was lodged with the police station on the abduction of the boy.
Police said that on Tuesday evening, Maulana Rehan Jamil witnessed the abducted boy with the attacker and tried to intercept them but the kidnapper opened fire at him.
The victim has been shifted to hospital. The police have taken up the case and initiated an investigation.
