Rescue 1122 marks Earth Day

On the directions of Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Arshad Zia, Punjab Emergency Service observed International Earth Day on Friday in all districts of the province. 

Different activities, including awareness walks and seminars, were arranged to sensitise the public about the increasing number of emergencies and disasters taking place due to environmental change, global warming and pollution.

Emergency Services Academy Director General Amir Hamza also arranged specialised activities, including a plantation campaign, speech competition and lectures by experts. 

Such initiatives by rescue operational offices in all districts of Punjab and Emergency Services Academy, Lahore, aim to make joint efforts in collaboration with public to develop safer communities by creating awareness among the public about climate change and impact of environmental pollution due to excessive energy consumption.

Amir Hamza said, “We have planned to plant 7,000 trees in different areas of the Emergency Services Academy by the end of this year, thus marking this International Earth Day with theme 'Tree for Earth.' He said, “As we have rescued over four million emergency victims in all districts of Punjab through trained emergency professionals, accordingly we have to rescue the Mother Earth through plantation to reduce the effects of climate change.

Rescue 1122 DG Brig (r) Arshad Zia appreciated the rescuers and volunteers from different organisations for organising events with regard to International Earth Day. He said all community volunteers were welcomed to join hands with Rescue 1122 to bring about healthy change and develop safe environment in Pakistan.
