KARACHI: The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) sealed the premises of a Karachi gym for evading sales tax and failing to file monthly returns, the board said in a statement.
Toro Fitness (Private) Limited, located in Gulistan-e-Johar, had not registered with the SRB, paid due amounts of sales tax, or filed monthly sales tax returns, despite being given enough time to comply with the Sindh Sales Tax on Services Act, 2011, the statement added.
The gym’s non-compliance resulted in a huge loss of Sindh Sales Tax (SST) revenues, it added. “The sealing of the taxpayer’s business premises is a result of their continuous non-compliant behaviour and failure to adhere to the laws related to sales tax,” the Sindh Revenue Board said.
“We want to communicate clearly that tax evasion will not be tolerated.” The SRB vowed to continue taking similar action against the gyms that fail to comply with the sales tax laws or try to suppress their sales.
