The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has assured the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that its candidates for the next month’s general elections after being elected to the National Assembly will vote for Nawaz Sharif as the PML-N’s candidate for the country’s next prime minister.

MQM-Pakistan senior leader Syed Amin Ul Haque stated this while talking to media persons on Monday after he led a delegation of his party to hold talks with the PML-N on adopting a strategy for possible seat adjustments between the two political parties for contesting the February polls in Sindh. Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan led the delegation of PML-N in the talks.

The senior MQM-P leader informed journalists that talks between the two parties were held warmly. He said his party’s delegation greeted the PML-N leaders on the Supreme Court decision that had ended the lifetime disqualification of its leader Nawaz Sharif.

He said that the Supreme Court had given a praiseworthy decision. He hoped that Nawaz Sharif would be the next prime minister as a result of the new house of the National Assembly, which would be formed after the polls.

Haque said that the MQM-Pakistan had the intention to form an electoral alliance with likeminded political parties to get rid of the corrupt regime that had been in power in Sindh for the past several years. He said the previous regime of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh had completely failed to deliver.

He informed media persons that the MQM-P had been holding talks with the Grand Democratic Alliance and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl to form an electoral alliance in Sindh for the upcoming polls. He predicted that MQM-P would be part of a coalition government in Sindh after the February 8 polls.

He said a joint candidate of the MQM-P and PML-N would become the next chief minister of Sindh. He informed media persons that candidates of the MQM would also contest the polls in the constituencies of Nawabshah, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas.

He said that former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and MQM-Pakistan Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui would decide on the issue of seat adjustment between the two parties in the constituency of NA-242 in Karachi. Both Shehbaz Sharif and MQM leader Syed Mustafa Kamal are the candidates from this constituency.

PML-N leader Rana Mashhood informed media persons that in a few days, the top leadership of the two political parties would make a final announcement on seat adjustments in Sindh for contesting the polls. He said the delegations of the two parties had fianlised their recommendations in this regard.

He said the PML-N favoured the formation of a multi-party alliance for contesting the elections. He said the corrupt regime and bad governance should come to an end in Sindh.
