TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir police arrested the prime suspect in the murder case of a minor girl within 24 hours of the incident, police officials said on Friday.
Talking to reporters, District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed said that the police recovered the body of Maria,6, from the bank of Panjkora river on Thursday. “The police contacted the father of the slain girl Abdul Rahman who told them that Maria went missing on Wednesday evening and they had no enmity,” the DPO said.
He added that the inspector general of police and regional police officer Malakand had taken notice of the incident and a team of senior officials was tasked with investigating the case. “The officials investigated the case on modern lines and arrested the accused within 24 hours of the incident,” he added.
The DPO said that the accused, Niaz Ali Khan, was a resident of Bannu and had been residing in Khazana village of Lower Dir district for the last two years. The accused molested the minor girl before strangling her to death and threw her body into Panjkora river,” he added. Meanwhile, the residents appreciated the Lower Dir police for arresting the accused and demanded the government to award stern punishment to him.
