JHANG: Ninety-one out of 170 government boys and girls high schools are functioning without their heads in the district.
According to the data released by the Education Department public information officer vide No-1688/DEO in response to an application filed under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013, the post of the headmistress of the Government Girls High School, Gudara, has been vacant since May 1984 while the post of the headmaster of the Government Boys High School, Bullo, has been vacant since June 17, 1999.
Meanwhile, Punjab Teachers Union central vice-president Sufi Ramzan Inqalabi expressed concern over the situation. When contacted, a spokesman for the Education Department said that the boys and girls schools, where regular heads were not available, were being looked after by senior teachers as acting heads and the were fully responsible to run day to day affairs of their schools. After completion of the process of promotion of teachers to the rank of head teachers and new recruitments, the issue would be resolved on permanently, he added.
