PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday directed the relevant authorities to submit the details of the cases and inquiries against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Murad Saeed within one week’s time.
A single bench consisting of Ijaz Khan heard the petition filed by Saeedulalh, who is father of PTI’s fugitive leader Murad Saeed. The petitioner approached the PHC to seek bail for his son and the details of the cases registered against him. Lawyer Shah Faisal Uthmanzai Advocate represented the petitioner, who requested the PHC to order the police to stop harassing and arresting the family members of the former federal minister, who went into hiding since May 9 attacks on the military installations.
The petition told the court that his son Murad Saeed was a leader of the PTI and served as federal minister for communications.
He said that several cases were registered against his son after former prime minister Imran Khan was ousted from power through the no-confidence motion in April 2022 and the attacks on
the army installations on May 9, 2023.
Saeedullah said that he had approached the provincial government to seek the details of the cases registered against his son, but authorities did not oblige him.
He alleged that the police were conducting raids on his residence and hujra besides harassing his relatives.
The petitioner said that Murad Saeed was a law-abiding citizen and his rivals were subjecting him to victimization. He requested the court to grant bail to his son so that he could appear before the relevant courts in connection with cases registered against him.
Justice Ijaz Khan remarked that the court had issued an order in a similar case that was struck down by the Supreme Court. The court wondered how could the arrest of an accused be stopped if cases were registered against him? Justice Ijaz Khan remarked that the police had the right to conduct raids for the arrest of an accused so how could the court stop it. Additional Advocate General Danial Asad Chamkani told the court that the petitioner was the father of Murad Saeed. He said that a similar petition was filed through Qazi Anwar Advocate in which the details of cases against Murad Saeed and Azam Swati had been sought. He said that the court had granted relief in the case of Azam Swati. The additional advocate general argued that the person for whom the relief was being sought had not even appeared before the court.
After hearing the arguments, the court directed the relevant officials to submit the details of the cases against Murad Saeed within one week’s time.
Meanwhile, the court granted transit bail to two election candidates, Arsalan Hafeez and Imran Yousaf, hailing from Punjab. Habib Qureshi Advocate appearing for them told the court that they were senior lawyers in Punjab and wanted to contest the next general election, however, their nomination papers had been rejected.
