HARIPUR: Unknown assailants allegedly shot dead a married woman in the limits of Khalabat Township, police officials said here on Tuesday.
The motive behind murder was not known, family and police said. Khalabat Township police quoted Jehangir Azam, a resident of Hund village of Swabi as saying that he was standing near the Malikyar interchange of Bypass Road with his sister Khumra Bibi, when two masked men riding a motorcycle stopped near them.
One of the masked men armed with a pistol came near them and opened fire on them as a result of which Khumra Bibi sustained injuries, he told the police.
The complainant said that he, however, escaped unhurt and after listening to the gunshots, Bibi’s husband Qasim Khan, a resident of neighbouring locality, reached there and they shifted the injured Bibi to the Trauma Centre where she succumbed to the injury. The complainant told the police that his sister was married to Qasim Khan about nine months back and the motive behind murder and the identity of assailants was not known.
