Staff of the Pakistan Customs at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, on Sunday foiled an attempt to smuggle 23 iPhones 15 pro max worth Rs9.2 million.
Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the Customs, said the Customs staff posted at the International Arrival Lounge of the airport stopped a female passenger who had arrived in Karachi from Sharjah via Air Arabia flight G9-542.
On suspicion on the green channel, she was inquired about her luggage. As her answers were not found satisfactory, her luggage was scanned and empty boxes of mobile phones and graphics cards were detected, upon which the Customs staff transferred the luggage to the examination counter.
Later, the woman was searched and 23 iPhones 15 pro max were found tied to her body. Their total value was estimated at Rs9.2 million and with the payable duty tax of Rs4.3 million.
Ali said the woman was arrested and mobile phones were confiscated.
