PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University has established its campus for the Hazara region in Abbottabad.
Formal classes at the KMU Institute of Health Sciences, Hazara campus will commence next month. Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (r) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah formally inaugurated the campus during his recent visit to Abbottabad, according to a statement issued here on Saturday.
During a briefing to the chief minister about the programmes offered at the campus, it was explained that the facility was established to meet the needs of the entire Hazara region.
It will cater to post-graduation in the medical field and offer a variety of undergraduate programmes, including Allied Health Sciences, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Medical graduates will have the opportunity for admission to postgraduate degree programmes in Public Health, Health Research, Epidemiology, and basic medical sciences.
The chief minister praised the establishment of KMU’s Hazara Campus as a crucial step in promoting medical education.
He stated that the campus would provide specialised training to medical graduates in various specialties at their doorstep. Arshad Hussain Shah commended the role of KMU in producing trained human resources in various medical fields, and expressed the hope for the university’s continued effective activities.
Vice Chancellor KMU Prof Dr Zia ul Haq, Commissioner Hazara Zaheer Ul Islam, and senior officials from the district administration and KMU management also attended the event.
Later, the caretaker chief minister interacted with delegations from the Mansehra Bar Association, Abbottabad Bar Association, and Haripur Bar Association to address their issues.
The delegations apprised the chief minister of the challenges faced by the lawyers’ communities in these districts.
Accompanied by Commissioner Syed Zaheerul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Khalid Iqbal, and DPO Abbottabad Umar Tufail, the chief minister discussed ways to resolve the issues with the delegation members, including Sardar Basharat, Muhammad Rafiq Yusuf, Asad Saeed Khan, and others.
The chief minister agreed to provide space for the offices of the Abbottabad lawyers’ community and directed the authorities to do the needful. The delegation highlighted the issue of the earthquake-affected Mirpur High School, and the chief minister instructed the authorities of the Communication and Works Department to assess the reconstruction costs for the school,
damaged during the 2005 earthquake.
Responding to the delegates’ demand for setting up examination centers in Abbottabad, Swat, and DI Khan for civil judge exams to be conducted by the KP Public Service Commission from January 16, 2024, the chief minister directed the authorities to facilitate candidates and enable them to participate in the exams at the local level.
