ISLAMABAD: The government will take a final decision in the next a couple of days on whether to provide all details about the two suspects in the Imran Farooq murder case to Scotland Yard in response to its queries sent to the interior ministry in the recent past, sources told The News here on Saturday.
The sources said Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan held crucial meetings with some high UK government officials during his recent visit to London after which he directed the relevant authorities on his return to prepare answers to all the queries made by Scotland Yard in the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq.
“The relevant authorities have taken fingerprints and the DNA of both murder suspects — 29-year-old Syed Mohsin Ali and 34-year-old Kashif Khan — besides taking their fresh photographs and compiling their biometric data with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra),” the sources said.
They claimed that the issue had now been referred to the top government functionary who would decide whether to provide all such details to Scotland Yard or not.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officers of the Interior Ministry Adeel Sattar and Superintendent of Police Sajid Kiyani, who is a personal staff member of the Interior Minister, refused to give an official version with regard to this story.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Imran Farooq, a prominent member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was murdered on September 16, 2010 outside his house in London as a result of multiple stabs and a blow to his head.
Scotland Yard in its statement in the past stated they had pieced together a ‘significant picture’ of the men’s movement in Pakistan and London, but wanted more information about their whereabouts in the days immediately prior to the murder, and on their travel out of Britain in the hours afterwards.
According to unconfirmed information, a member of the National Assembly from Karachi was tasked by someone from another country to arrange the murder of Dr. Imran Farooq. He later assigned the job to Khalid Shamim who sought help from another person, Hammad Siddiqui.
Hammad Siddiqui provided two professional killers — Syed Mohsin Ali and Kashif Khan—who were later sent to London by Khalid Shamim on student visas to carry out the murder.
When these professional killers reached London, an unidentified person briefed them about the routine of Dr. Imran Farooq. They allegedly killed Dr. Imran Farooq and left for Colombo the same day instead of returning to Pakistan in order to mislead those investigating the case.
A Pakistani intelligence agency reportedly recorded the telephonic conversation between Khalid Shamim and the two killers 12 minutes after the murder of Dr. Imran Farooq.
When these two murder suspects reached Karachi from Colombo, the intelligence officials reportedly took them into custody and later shifted them to an unknown location.
It is pertinent to mention here that Hammad Siddiqui who provided these two professional killers was also blamed in the report of the Joint Investigation Team for demanding Rs20 million from the owners of the Baldia town factory.
