PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan has released a list of 37 politicians, including former prime minister Imran Khan, who have not paid the fines slapped on them by the ECP in previous elections for violating the code of conduct.
A number of former ministers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government are also among the defaulters who did not pay fines imposed on them by the ECP for violation of the code of conduct during by-elections and local government elections.
Apart from Imran Khan, former chief minister Mahmood Khan, ex-ministers Kamran Bangash, Taimur Jhagra, Shaukat Yousafzai, Ishtiaq Urmar, Amjad
Afridi and others are among those who did not pay the fine.
The ECP had imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the then prime minister Imran Khan at least three times in 2022 for violation of the code of conduct during the second phase of the local government polls. The ECP had also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 each on former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Federal Minister Murad Saeed, Ali Haider Zaidi and MPA Shakil Khan for participating in a public meeting in violation of code of conduct.
The fine on the former prime minister was imposed by the district monitoring officers of Lower Dir, Malakand and Swat.
Apart from Imran, Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto was also fined for violating the code of conduct. Some of these politicians, however, deposited the fine while others refused to do so.
