Criminal killed in ‘encounter’

LAHORE : A criminal was killed in an alleged police encounter in Baghbanpura police area on Thursday.

As per police, a citizen M Farooq informed the police that two motorcyclists were firing outside his house. The police reached the spot. On seeing the police, the three motorcyclists started firing directly at the police and mistakenly killed one of their accomplices who was later identified as Salman who had killed four people including two women in Baghbanpura area a few days ago.

Two thieves arrested

Organised Crime Unit Sadar Division arrested two thieves. The accused, identified as M Asif and M Sarwar, used to steal goods from textile mills including Quetta Textile Mills Dina Nath District Kasur and Green Carton Product Mills District Nankana Sahib.

Meanwhile, Harbanspura police arrested two robbers on Thursday. The robbers, identified as Muneeb and Umair, were on their way back after looting a citizen Riaz when the police arrested them. Police claimed that Umair mistakenly shot and injured his accomplice Muneeb who was admitted to a local hospital.

Biker injured on resistance

Two suspected robbers shot at and injured a man on resistance in Manawan on the other day.Umar, 30, of Tulspura was going to his home on a motorcycle when two robbers stopped him outside Diyal House. The suspects pulled out their gun and snatched Rs5,000, a mobile phone and a laptop from Umar who tried to resist. One of the suspects opened fire at Umar and a bullet hit him in the belly. The suspects managed their escape. The injured was taken to the Services hospital where he was said to be stable.Harbanspura police have registered a case and started investigation.

Decrease in murders recorded

A 20 percent decrease in murders was recorded this month as compared to December last year. As per DIG Operations, compared to December 2022, a 16% decrease in the rate of serious crimes was recorded this month, a 100% reduction in kidnapping for ransom and 57% reduction in robbery was observed. Compared to Dec 2022, there has been 15 percent reduction in the incidents of robbery this month, 10% reduction in cases of snatching, 28% reduction in the incidents of bike snatching.

Students visit PSCA

The delegation of the Punjab Police Internship Programme consisted of 120 students from various universities conducted a study tour of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) here on Thursday.

The delegation visited the different departments of Safe City on this occasion. The DSP Shift Commander briefed the delegation on the functioning of the organisation. The delegation was informed about the Electronic Data Analysis Centre, Media Management Center, and Operation and Monitoring Center.
