MULTAN: Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), as a matter of principle, have decided to form an election alliance in Punjab, sources told The News. The alliance will be effective in Punjab in all constituencies.
It was learnt that the JUIF and the PPP would support each other in Punjab and JUIF would not field candidates against the top PPP leaders.
The PPP will withdraw its candidates against the JUIF in Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Taunsa Sharif and some other districts.
PPP social media team head, Ali Kasim Gillani, told The News that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had delegated powers to PPP Senior Vice-Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani to establish the electoral alliance in Punjab.
A four-member Punjab JUIF delegation had met Gillani at the Gillani House, he said, adding that as a matter of principle, the PPP had decided an election alliance with the JUIF in Punjab.
A delegation of the JUIF Parliamentary Board met Yousuf Raza Gillani in Multan. The JUIF delegation was led by Punjab General Secretary Naseer Ahmed Ahrar and included provincial Vice Ameers Zakaria Shah, Rao Abdul Qayyum, Provincial Deputy Secretary General Noor Khan Hans and provincial Shoora member Mudassar Mahmood. The Punjab JUIF spokesperson Hafiz Ghazanfar Aziz told The News that during the meeting, electoral alliance and seat adjustment in Punjab province were discussed. Aziz said that in the meeting, he also contacted Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He said that it was agreed to continue the communication and contact with more parties.
