The MBBS and BDS fees of the Karachi Medical and Dental College (Karachi Metropolitan University) have been increased by more than 150 per cent while some new types of fees have also been added.
This increase was approved by the governing body of the KMDC under the chairmanship of Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. The notification was issued by Dr Nargis Anjum, principal of the KMDC.
According to the notification, the admission fee of open merit has been increased to Rs50,000 from Rs20,000 last year. The tuition fee has been increased from Rs50,000 to Rs117600, the library fee from Rs3,500 to 10,000, and student activity/social fee from Rs8,000 to Rs10,000.
A fee in the name of development charges has been fixed at Rs30,000, Rs10,000 will be charged as the laboratory fee and Rs5,000 as IT fee.
Kast year the merit seat fee was Rs101,500, which has now become Rs268,600. Similarly, the self-finance section has also been increased. The admission fee of self-finance has been increased to Rs100,000, while last year it was Rs20,000. Tuition fee has been increased from Rs600,000 to Rs1.2 million, the library fee has been increased to Rs10,000 to Rs3,500, the transport fee has risen from Rs20,000 to Rs36,000, the student activity/social fee has been increased from Rs8,000 to Rs10,000, and development charges have been set at Rs50,000, laboratory fee at Rs10,000 and IT fee at Rs5,000. The seat of self-finance was for Rs651,500 last year, which has now increased to Rs1,421,000.
