ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has decided not to appoint a trade officer in India.
According to sources, New Delhi was included in the total of 40 posts advertised for appointment of trade officers abroad during the coalition government in July this year. But the caretaker prime minister approved the appointment of 39 trade officers only, ignoring New Delhi.
The sources said that despite suspension of trade, former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved the post of Trade and Investment Consular of Grade 19, abolishing the post of Grade 20 Trade and Investment Minister in India.
According to the trade ministry, there has been no change in the trade policy with India. It should be noted that Pakistan had suspended trade with India in August 2019.
