LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed to get the election nomination papers signed by Hasaan Niazi.
Justice Ali Baqir Najafi of LHC issued a four-page verdict on the petition of Hasaan Niazi’s mother.
The LHC judge said in the written verdict, Hasaan Niazi is currently in custody in the Jinnah House attack case and he wanted to contest the election but had not been allowed to sign the nomination papers.
It has been stated in the written judgment that the petitioner has not stated from which constituency Hasaan Khan wants to contest the election.
The public prosecutor admitted that Hasaan Niazi was not convicted and could contest the election.
The Lahore High Court said that the Deputy Attorney General did not mention any provision of the Army Act under which the under-trial accused could not participate in the election. The LHC said that it should be ensured that Hasaan Niazi, if he wants to sign the papers to participate in the election, should be given permission. The decision also said that the lawyer of the Election Commission and Deputy Attorney General should inform the commanding officer about the court order and disposed of the case.
