LAHORE: The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday claimed to have killed a terrorist and his accomplice linked to over 50 murders and an attack on an intelligence agency office in Faisalabad.
According to the CTD spokesman, the intelligence-based operation took place in Chiniot.
During the CTD action, terrorist Ghazanfar Nadeem and his accomplice resisted, leading to an exchange of fire between CTD personnel and the terrorists. Both terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire.
The spokesperson revealed that Nadeem, with a bounty of Rs2.5 million on his head, had been in hiding since 2011, evading security agencies. The law enforcement forces recovered modern weapons and explosives from the hideout where he was located, he said and added that Ghazanfar Nadeem alias Khalid Habib was known by various aliases, the terrorist was involved in 11 major operations including the ISI in Faisalabad, a suicide attack in Dera Ismail Khan and also a sectarian target killing.
The CTD spokesman further said that the elimination of the notorious figure was expected to result in a noticeable decrease in terrorist activities. He said that the accused was associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The CTD Punjab is diligently pursuing its goal of a safe Punjab and no stone will be left unturned in its efforts to bring terrorists and anti-state elements behind bars, he said and concluded that in case of any related information, call the helpline of CTD Punjab on 0800 11111.
