LAHORE: To prevent smuggling into Punjab, a proposal component (PC-1) has been prepared for the construction of joint check-posts of Rangers, police and Customs and other departments at a cost of Rs3.49 billion.
The Punjab Cabinet Standing Committee on Law and Order had approved the check-posts two months back. An initial estimate of Rs3.37 billion was made for building 13 check-posts in five districts of Punjab, DG Khan, Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan, Attock and Bhakkar, which according to PC-1 has now increased to more than Rs3.49 billion. According to the documents, the deputy commissioners of the districts have sent the cost estimates to the Home Department for the construction of state-of-the-art check-posts at 13 places, including Kala Bagh Bridge located on the border of Punjab and KP, Jinnah Barrage, Chashma Barrage and Dajal Bridge, Sakhi Sarwar and Rakhi Gaug Bewata on the Punjab-Balochistan border, Daowala on the Punjab-Sindh border, Kot Sabzal, Triman, Attock Khurd, Triman, Khushalgarh, Taunsa Barrage and Shah Wali on the border of Punjab.
The joint check-posts will be provided with modern computers and other equipment, including mobile internet connections.
