Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar is scheduled to attend a fundraiser to be held in Karachi on Sunday (today) aimed at getting the support of philanthropists for speeding up the construction of a state-of-the-art charitable health facility in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

The non-profit Medics International (MI) in partnership with Baqir Health and Educational Welfare Trust and Zaidi Abid Foundation USA, have been jointly building the UMC as a modern tertiary-care teaching hospital in Karachi that would provide specialised healthcare services in different fields of medicine.

After its completion, up to 20 per cent budget of the 500-bed healthcare facility would be used for providing free-of-charge modern treatment and hospitalisation to deserving patients from deprived communities.

The UMC will operate round-the-clock with emergency treatment facilities for both adult and child patients.

In contrast, the upcoming healthcare facility will also give specialised care to cancer patients.

Famous TV and theatre personality, Khalid Anum, will be the host of the fundraiser.

MI Pakistan CEO Dr Dilbar Saeed has appealed to the philanthropists to wholeheartedly support the speedy completion of the UMC that would provide the latest treatment to underprivileged patients not only from Sindh but from adjoining parts of Balochistan.
