KMC to establish Karachi Museum at Denso Hall Library
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the establishment of a museum at the Denso Hall Library.
Speaking on Friday, he said living nations preserved their historical heritage for future generations and steps were being taken to keep the historical buildings of Karachi intact in their original state.
He said no change would be made in the design, structure and elevation of the historical buildings of the city being managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The mayor made these remarks as he visited the Denso Hall located on MA Jinnah Road. KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, the mayor’s spokesperson for political affairs Karamullah Waqasi, deputy parliamentary leader of the KMC City Council Dil Muhammad, former Karachi administrator Faheem-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, KMC senior director culture and sports Saif Abbas Husni, Durriya Qazi and others were also present on the occasion.
Wahab said Karachi had a glorious past in terms of historical buildings whose protection was the responsibility of the city administration. He explained that a resolution for the establishment of a museum at the Denso Hall had already been approved by the KMC City Council.
He said rare objects, maps and photographs related to the history, civilization and culture of Karachi would be kept at the museum in order to help historical researchers, students and other citizens who wanted to gain knowledge about the history of Karachi.
Wahab said some work has been done around the Denso Hall in the past and the encroachments removed, but more steps would be taken to make the place beautiful and accessible.
The mayor took notice of the installation of iron security doors in the rooms of the hall and ordered their immediate removal. He said historical buildings were considered hallmarks of cities worldwide and no change could be made in the design of such buildings.
He said the Denso Hall, also called Khaliq Dina Hall, was a place of historical importance as Maulana Mohammed Ali Johar and his comrades were tried in the British period in the building.
He vowed that all places and buildings of historical importance in Karachi would be improved with the cooperation of relevant institutions and the required repair work on them would be done on a priority basis.
