Govt to introduce 3-colour bedsheets system in hospitals

LAHORE:The Punjab government has ordered for replacing bedsheets on a daily basis and decided to introduce a 'three-colour bedsheets system' to ensure proper hygiene in public sector hospitals. Provincial Minister of Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir revealed this on Friday.

The minister informed that from January 1, 2024, bedsheets of three different colours would be used at all the district headquarter hospitals being run by his department while the same system will also be introduced at tehsil headquarter hospitals from January 15.

"Every day, a bedsheet of different colour will be used for all the beds in a hospital and a schedule will be prescribed for every hospital for this purpose", the minister told.

The minister said that all the district headquarter hospitals will be provided with seven bed sheets of three colours for each bed. He further informed that disposable bed sheets will be used for emergency wards and a new bedsheet will be used for every patient.

Earlier, a monthly performance review meeting for all the tehsil headquarters hospitals was held under the chairmanship of Dr Jamal Nasir. Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan reviewed the monthly performance of 135 Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals of Punjab.

Special Secretary M Iqbal, Additional Secretary Khizer Afzal and Rashid Irshad, DG Health Dr Ilyas Gondal and DG Drugs M Sohail also participated in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Social Welfare and Baitul Mal, Prof. Dr Javed Akram chaired a meeting in the office of the DG Social Welfare to review the steps taken to upgrade the Chaman Centre.

DG Social Welfare and Baitul Mal Mudassar Riaz Malik, Prof. Dr Shazia Maqbool, Director Irfan Gondal and Dr Uzma Bukhari from UNICEF participated in the meeting. Dr Javed Akram said that Chaman Centre in Social Welfare Complex Township was being upgraded and a model centre would be built for the rehabilitation of differently abled children.

He said that nursing, linguistic and speech therapy facilities will be available in Chaman Model Centre. Cabinet approval will be taken if necessary for the upgradation of Chaman Centre. Mudassar Riaz Malik said that a working paper was being prepared for the upgradation of Chaman Centre.
