LAHORE: The Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has brought about a change in policy regarding the exchange of Excise Inspectors (EI), aiming to enhance transparency, accountability, reduce corruption, and improve the department's efficiency.
A spokesperson for the Excise Department, while providing details on Friday, mentioned that if an EI is transferred from one region to another, he/she will continue to report to his/her original region's Directorate.
The spokesperson further said, ‘the EI cannot stay in the borrowing region for more than three years and must report back to the lending (original region) upon completing the three-year term. Previously, when inspectors were transferred, communication with their original region was discontinued, leading to various administrative issues. Some inspectors had been working in borrowing regions for tens of years, and serious complaints were raised against them. However, due to the lack of jurisdiction by the policy concerned, i.e., their original regional director, no action could be taken on these complaints.’ The spokesperson highlighted that, exceptionally, the new could be relaxed on the basis of medical, administrative, and the spouse's employment grounds.
