Suspect arrested

Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police arrested a suspected robber at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after he had escaped in an injured state during an encounter on Wednesday.

Police said the suspect had snatched a purse from a girl, Malaika, in Sector 5A4 of North Karachi. Police personnel on a patrol heard the girl’s cries for help and chased the suspect and his accomplice. On seeing the police coming towards them, the suspects started firing gunshots. The police retaliated and wounded a suspect, who still managed to escape. The injured man later reached Abbasi Shaheed Hospital with his mother and falsely claimed he had been injured in firing by robbers during a robbery.

The police also arrived and arrested the suspect during a search at the hospital. The suspect was identified as Humair, son of Abdul Aziz, and the purse snatched from the girl was also recovered from his possession. The suspect had earlier been arrested in robbery and arms cases registered at the Sharea Faisal and Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police stations.
