LAHORE: The three-day international conference on eye diseases held under the auspices of Opthalmic Society of Pakistan, Lahore chapter, concluded here Tuesday.
The conference was organised by President Society Prof Moin Yaqeen, General Secretary Prof Hussain Ahmad Khaqan, and Finance Secretary Dr Javed Malik.
More than 40 senior professors and eye surgeons from 25 countries along with more than 1,600 delegates from all over Pakistan participated. The conference also featured a display of medical equipment and machinery for eyes.
Medical experts discussed the latest treatments for various eye diseases, new trends, and medical equipment which is being used abroad. They emphasised that blindness due to uncontrolled sugar is increasing in the world. They stressed making public the message of prevention is better than cure.
People with diabetes should have their retina examined by an expert retinal surgeon twice a year. Doctors said that glaucoma is a silent killer of vision. Women and men over 40 should have their eyes checked regularly and children should be examined by a reliable eye specialist before enrolling in school. Foreign doctors declared Pakistan a safe country and expressed their gratitude to the conference organiser, Prof Hussain Ahmad Khaqan for the hospitality.
