Organ failure claims over 150,000 lives annually in Pakistan, with kidney and liver failure contributing significantly to this staggering toll. Despite global medical advancements, our nation grapples with a critical issue – the lack of a robust organ donation culture. Unlike some Islamic countries, Pakistan has not fully embraced organ donation, prompting a call for effective measures to bridge this gap. The lack of organ donors in our country warrants exploration of contributing factors.
Despite legislative efforts in 2010, public awareness and understanding remain low, fostering misconceptions around the donation process. The health authorities must utilize healthcare professionals, religious leaders, and community influencers to dispel myths and shape positive attitudes. A comprehensive awareness campaign is crucial for inspiring a cultural shift towards viewing organ donation as a commendable and life-affirming deed.
