PESHAWAR: A senior journalist and founding Editor-in-Chief of English-language daily, The Frontier Post, Rehmat Shah Afridi, passed away at the age of 74.
Family sources said Rehmat Shah Afridi, lovingly called Shah Sahib, was under treatment at a health facility where he lost the battle for life on Saturday night.The funeral prayers were offered at Bagh-e-Naran in Hayatabad Township on Sunday.
A large number of people from various walks of life attended his funeral. He was laid to rest in a graveyard in the University Town.He is survived by four sons - Mahmood Afridi, Jalil Afridi, Bilal Afridi and Barrister Ahmad Afridi.
Late Rehmat Shah Afridi launched The Frontier Post from Peshawar on February 25, 1985 when the country was under the martial law by General Ziaul Haq. The daily was brought out from Lahore as well in 1989 after democracy was restored and the Pakistan People’s Party was in power.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Information and Public Relations Mian Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel expressed profound sorrow over the death of Rehmat Shah Afridi.
