LAHORE : Air Quality Index (AQI) of the provincial metropolis reached 340 on Saturday, which was the hazardous category and very dangerous for the citizen’s health.
The AQI recorded by the fixed station at Punjab University was 340 at 9.00am, data released by EPD revealed. The data further revealed that the AQI came down afterwards.
Environmental experts said that the study of AQI data showed that the AQI was on higher levels in the early hours of the day, later it came down but started rising in night hours.
Meanwhile, Met officials said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted that mainly cold and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while partly cloudy in northern districts.
They added that smog/fog was likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during morning and night hours.
Saturday’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Leh where mercury dropped down to -11°C while in Lahore it was 8.8°C and maximum was 23°C.
