LAHORE : A man strangled his wife identified as Asia Bibi to death after inflicting the worst torture in the area of Kahna on Saturday. After receiving information about the incident, the police arrested her husband Shahid Umar. Police say that there are strangulation marks on victim’s neck.
The relatives have alleged that the husband strangled his 32-year-old wife to death after torturing her. Police collected evidence with the help of forensic teams and removed the body to morgue. Further investigation is underway.
Security guard shot dead
A shoe factory security guard was shot dead under mysterious circumstances in the limits of Manga Mandi police station on Saturday.
According to the police, the deceased security guard was identified as 35-year-old Azhar Iqbal, who was shot in the chest, which proved fatal. Azhar was shifted to a hospital in Raiwand with the help of Rescue 1122, where the doctors confirmed his death before reaching the hospital.
According to the police, bullet shells were recovered from the scene and the matter is being investigated to ascertain whether it was a suicide or murder with the help of the forensic team. The body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem.
Over 100 smog-producing vehicles apprehended
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has successfully apprehended over 100 smog-producing vehicles and engaged in illegal garbage burning at various locations in Lahore. Utilising state-of-the-art Safe City cameras, these vehicles were promptly identified, leading to a swift response from the field force. The vigilant monitoring of entry and exit points, along with major routes in Lahore, remains an integral part of the Safe City initiative. Smoke-emitting vehicles and garbage burning were detected by the cameras, and immediate alerts were relayed to the field forces. The spokesperson for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority emphasised that PSCA prevents crime and also actively contributes to the reduction of environmental pollution. The Authority encourages citizens to play their part by reporting instances of smog creation in their vicinity through the emergency helpline at 15.
Road accidents
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,199 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
In these road accidents, 08 people died, whereas 1,274 were injured. Out of these, 542 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 724 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
The motorbikes were involved in majority (75%) road accidents. The statistics showed that 233 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 235 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 95 Faisalabad in with 105 victims and at third Multan with 85 road accidents and 94 victims.
