The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released the crime statistics for November. The data shows that 7,185 incidents of street crime were reported in the city last month, an average of 240 crimes a day.
There were 4,724 reported incidents of motorbike lifting. Incidents of car theft and snatching were recorded at 163, while 2,272 mobile phones were reported as snatched. An increase has been observed in incidents of murder, robbery and extortion.
Based on newspaper reports, 52 people were killed last month in various incidents. There were 13 reported incidents of extortion, while there was no recorded incident of kidnapping for ransom.
Criminal shot dead
A man was shot a suspected street criminal in Block 16 of Federal B Area on Saturday.
Rescuers transported the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the police, a showroom owner, upon leaving his house, encountered two motorcycle-borne dacoits attempting to rob him. The robbers fired gunshots at him; however, the owner luckily remained unharmed as the bullets struck his car.
Seizing the moment, the citizen retaliated with his weapon, fatally shooting one robber with two shots. The accomplice of the deceased robber managed to escape the scene. Police noted that the killed suspect and his accomplice carried online motorbike service helmets.
A case has been registered, and investigations are underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate incident, a man was fatally injured with a sharp-edged weapon in the Bihar Colony area of Lyari.
The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Abid Ali, son of Fazal Khattab, and his body was transported to the Civil Hospital Karachi.
