CTD arrests ‘TTP Swat commander’ in raid
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh Police on Friday announced the apprehension of an alleged hardcore terrorist associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The captured suspect, identified as Izzat, son of Asfandyar Khan, was taken into custody from the Old Sabzi Mandi area.
According to the CTD spokesperson, the arrested militant, believed to be a highly wanted terrorist, previously served as the leader of the militant group in Matta, District Swat. Izzat was implicated in an attack on the residence of former federal minister Afzal Lala and was accused of orchestrating an assault on the Khawaja Khel check post, resulting in the martyrdom of three soldiers.
Additionally, Izzat had confessed to launching multiple attacks on military check posts, including the Matta Police Station and Kanju airport.
Following his arrest, a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition, including a large number of firearms and explosives, were seized from his possession, as stated by the CTD spokesperson. Cases have been registered, and further investigation is currently underway.
